THE POSITION
The Embedded Electronics Designer is part of a core team that will be assisting in solidifying and expanding our capabilities in the electrification space. In the past 18 months, the team has developed and launched an Electric Vehicle Communication Controller (EVCC) with a local lead customer. Work in a space where the sky is the limit for you to flex your designing capabilities, where you will be challenged to think outside the box. You will be supporting the current customer platform and developing complementary products to the EVCC. SMG seeks experienced, out-of-the-box designers in ARM based systems running Linux and FreeRTOS.
HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING AN IMPACT
- Develop system level requirements based on customer needs and industry best practice.
- Design schematics and PCB layouts.
- Prepare technical drawings of components and assemblies.
- Develop and execute Design Verification/Validation plans.
- Work with suppliers to support product procurement and open engineering issues.
- Collaborate with full engineering team on product design and production efforts to ensure that projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
- Participate in vendor qualification activities.
- Participate in project hand-off to manufacturing team.
- Engage in new product development activities that are in line with the company’s strategy.
- Conduct market research, as necessary.
- Support development of system level architecture.
- Support development of project development plans.
- Support creation of customer quotations to estimate engineering effort and schedule and produce project budgets.
WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE YOU REQUIRE
- Education: BSc Degree in Electrical or Computer Science or equivalent.
- Knowledge of ARM based systems running Linux or FreeRTOS.
- Knowledge of system and environmental requirements for vehicle applications.
- Knowledge of CAN Bus.
- Experience defining and executing component and system level test plans.
- Experience with working and debugging electronics.
- Experience in designing transportation, agriculture, and/or construction vehicle electronic devices/systems.
- Understanding of FMEAs and DFM (design for manufacturing) guidelines.
- Exposure to design and verification testing methods.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Project management, leadership, and presentation skills is an asset.
- Ability to work well under pressure and under tight timelines.
- High level of organizational skills, detail oriented, and analytical.
- Must possess excellent communication skills to collaborate with customers and multiple disciplinary teams.
- An energetic, diligent work ethic and able to work with little supervision.
- Able to travel between Canada, the USA, and internationally, as required.
